Dread
the stray moments were losing themselves in the indifference of a time grown old before eternity
G-d was worried again; more than worried — He was terrified.
Ever since He had created man, He had nothing but trouble with him. He had conceived him after His own image and likeness, with small “improvements and reservations”, naturally. He knew Himself well enough, and did not believe that anyone who was no more than a “reflection” of Himself on the scale of one minuscule planet could make Him think about the future with concern.
He had limited man’s capacities to what was strictly necessary for survival, but — out of carelessness or curiosity, He no longer remembered with certainty — He had not fenced off his possibilities of self-improvement, which could allow him a process of evolution, or of involution, in equal measure.
At the time He had not even considered the possible powers of abstraction of His creation; once “torn” away from reality, the mind of man became dangerous.
For as long as He had known Himself, He could do absolutely everything, and that had made Him treat the matter with less attention. He did not believe that “something” could evolve towards absolute power, since not even He had evolved: He had held it for as long as He had known Himself.
Where did the danger come from? Was it a real danger? Could man make it concrete? Could it affect Him? Could He prevent this process without destroying His own creation? Where were they evolving to? Ought He to meddle in their affairs once more, breaking His original decision never to intervene again?
He was curious to see how far they could get with no help of any kind.
He, who could do everything, did not know quite everything; not only of the future, but not of the past either. He knew nothing, for instance, about His own evolution, or whether such a thing had ever existed. Had time not existed for Him? He knew that He had created it for men and for their material infrastructure. He existed through Himself, and Everything through Him; a single law, a single principle, without limits of space or time.
And man — that wretched bioenergetic “assemblage” of former times, degenerate for the most part, many of his initial faculties atrophied over the years by his leaning towards comfort and by excesses of various kinds, sexual ones included, which had never been the case with Him — man, then, had become a potential danger to Him; a danger not only as a “notion” and a “representation”, but also as an existence within non-existence, in material terms.
He had “blinded” them with the speed of light, which He had imposed upon them as an upper limit, impossible to reach. They exceeded it.
He had shut them inside a space bounded by “infinity”, from which they could not get out. They passed beyond the frontiers of “zero” and of “infinity”.
He had “buried” them in “time”, binding their lives to moments and hours. They annihilated them.
He had “tied” them to the “permanent present”, to memories of origins and evolution. They tore it apart with concepts of a future that is at once present and past.
The “cage” of three-dimensional space, itself locked inside the “sphere of time”, was more than sufficient for a normal evolution of theirs.
The four dimensions were not enough for them. They took the dangerous “step” towards HIM, sensing another “dimension” — the only one, which contained all the rest. They have not found it yet, but they can.
A “place” of a single dimension, where infinite distances and infinite time would be “zero and simultaneous”. A place “anywhere” and “at any time”, without limits of space or time.
They have identified the place. It is possible that they will identify the “way” as well. Why did He not inhibit their access to it from the very beginning. It will not be long before they realise that Everything exists, has happened and is happening only within His “mind”. They will give substance to the “way of Imagination” and will become their own G-ds. And He will be no more than one G-d among other G-ds; dreadful.
